Wisconsin Alpha Delta Kappa Newsletter- October/November 2022

Please Note: The published version of this newsletter may be found here.

Dear Wisconsin A𝚫K Sisters,

Usually you can expect a state AΔK newsletter every month.  I apologize for combining the October and November newsletters together. My October was spent first with my sister in Green Bay while she was in the hospital, then in Madison while my dad was in the hospital.

In between, I met with the wonderful women who are our state board members for our first Wisconsin AΔK Board meeting of the 2022-2024 biennium. What a pleasure it was to meet together on October 15 at the Nitty Gritty in Sun Prairie. There were many highlights, including a special Founders' Day Ceremony presented by our state president-elect, Joanne Loy, and our state secretary, Arlene Danielson.  Our special guest was IVP of the North Central Region, Ann Ainslie. Ann traveled from Michigan to meet our Wisconsin AΔK leadership.

Kathryn Saunders Grant 2022

Thank you to all of our Wisconsin ΑΔΚ Chapters for submitting a nomination for the Kathryn Saunders Grant. Every chapter nominated a very deserving organization to receive the $400 grant. At the Wisconsin ΑΔΚ Board Meeting, the board decided to put the names of each nominee into a "hat" (we actually used a coffee cup), and Ann Ainslie drew out the name of the 2022 recipient of the Kathryn Saunders Grant. The 2022 Kathryn Saunders Grant of $400 was awarded to Thread by Thread, a Clothing Ministry of Bethania Lutheran Church, Racine. Thread by Thread was nominated by Tau Chapter. A generous donation from Carol Faren, state Courtesy/Communications Chair, made it possible for the state board to award $100 to each of the other nominees. Each Wisconsin AΔK Chapter will be receiving a check to award to their nominee. Congratulations to all!

Alpha Delta Kappa Month and Founders' Day

This year our celebration of Alpha Delta Kappa Month and Founders' Day has been extra special, as Alpha Delta Kappa International celebrates 75 years since its founding in 1947. Our Wisconsin Tau Chapter of Racine celebrated the 50th anniversary of their charter last Saturday, October 29 with a luncheon at the Racine Public Library. Congratulations to Tau on this milestone!

Chapter AΔK Month Chairs- please send your AΔK Month reports to Sue Carey, State AΔK Month Chair, by November 23. Her email address is caregar@aol.com

Barbara Beetow Memorial Grant Applications for the 2022 Barbara Beetow Memorial Grant are due on December 1, 2022. Attached is the grant application for any 501(c)(3) charitable organization your chapter would like to nominate.

International World Understanding Project - a note from Julie Iorio, State Chair: The International World Understanding project for 2021 to 2023 is called C.H.E.A.R. meaning : Making a Children’s Home with Education and Agriculture a Reality in Tanzania. There is more information in the Kappan magazine. Wisconsin’s goal is $2000.00 by July 2023.  We have $626.00 toward our goal.  We did a cute fundraiser at the board meeting called Purse Scavenger Hunt. The items not found were added up with a cost of 10 cents apiece, and that amount was donated to C.H.E.A.R. This would be a fun way for your chapter to raise some money. Another fun way is looking for the letters A, D, or K on a one dollar bill to donate. Any questions? Email Chair Julie Iorio, julieiorio19@yahoo.com.
