My
oh my, here it is April. I'm ready for some warmer and drier weather so
I can get in my flower beds and garden. Last month I wrote that by the
end of April I had hoped to have my flower beds cleaned out (no) and
onions and potatoes planted in the garden (not yet). I am so looking
forward to getting in the dirt!
The
Regional Conference will be held July 17-21 in Frankenmuth, MI. It
looks like it's going to be a great conference. Our Michigan sisters
are collecting mittens for their project and are asking for
donations. I would be happy to deliver any mittens you wish to donate
if you don't plan on attending or if someone from your chapter won't be
going.
Our
State Convention will be held Friday, April 22- Saturday, April
23. Many sisters have been hard at work to make this a most rewarding,
informative, business, and yes, fun convention. New officers will be
installed by our special guest, Judy Ganzert, Immediate Past
International President. We feel honored to have her are looking forward
to her visit.
When
I began this journey of state president, I wasn't concerned about
conducting the meetings as I have been doing that since I was a farm
girl in 4-H. I felt that even though I have been a member of ΑΔΚ for
over forty years I still did not know enough to be the state president.
I was encouraged to be president elect during the Regional Conference
in Winnipeg, being promised lots of help (and a red Wisconsin scarf). And
I got it, thanks to all my knowledgeable sisters! I have learned so
much more about our organization and my learning isn't over yet. This
has been an interesting term to say the least. Covid raised it's ugly
head and nixed in-person, face-to-face meetings, chapter and
state. Then my health took a nose-dive but after radiation treatment to
kill the Trigemial nerve I am pretty much pain free. Still tire easily,
but that's improving, too. One of the big pluses of this “job” was that
I got to know more sisters, and made more friends. It has been a very
rewarding experience, and thank the good Lord we're back to face-to-face
meetings!
I
would like to thank all the sisters that have served on the State
Board, State committees, to those that have held chapter offices, served
on chapter committees, and to all who attended any ΑΔΚ meeting or function. Your time, energy, and work are all so appreciated.
So,
this is the last newsletter as State President that I will write. I
wish you all the best in your chapters and your life. Let's keep Alpha
Delta Kappa going strong!

Dear Sisters,
It's
hard to believe that March is almost over, and yet, with the exception
of a few nice days, March weather has been nasty- too much cold, rain,
snow, and wind! Let's hope April will be much better in all ways!
The new International website is up and running. There is a tutorial to watch which may be helpful to you. Signing in is pretty much the same as before. Your user name is your ID # found on the back of your Kappan on your address label. I did have to reset my password but that was not difficult to do.
New
chapter officers should be elected by now and installed shortly. Chapter presidents need to fill out form H-107. The form can
be found on the International website.
The
State Convention will be held April 22-23 at Wintergreen Resort in
Wisconsin Dells. Plans are well underway to make this a wonderful
convention. Thanks to all the chapters who have volunteered to take on
responsibilities needed for a successful convention. There is still time
to register, get in touch with your chapter president for details. Friday evening will be the Board meeting and also hospitality
time, a great opportunity to meet friends and make new ones. Our
sisters are the best! If you can't make it Friday evening, please come
to the convention on Saturday. The new officers will be installed and
our speaker will be Judy Ganzert, a past International president. I hope
to see you there!!
I
wish you all a wonderful April, a meaningful Easter, and a terrific
spring. Just think, a month from now we'll have new chapter and state
officers. And hopefully, I'll have some of my vegetable garden (onions,
potatoes, cold weather plants) planted and the flower beds cleaned out
and ready to enjoy.

Jan
Hulderson, co-founder of Psi chapter and its first president, passed
away March 17. Her funeral was held on March 26. Jan served on the state
board and several committees.

Our Exciting Project C.H.E.A.R. is in the Works!
A
dream came true when the Harambee Foundation was awarded the $50,000
Alpha Delta Kappa International World Understanding Grant for Project
C.H.E.A.R (making a) Children's Home (with) Education (and) Agriculture (a) Reality in July of 2021.
Alpha Delta Kappa is an international honorary organization of women educators. Every two years chapters
may submit applications to receive this generous grant. The committee
members select the top three proposals and a vote is taken by the entire
membership.
Over the next two years, Alpha Delta Kappa Chapters (ADK) will be raising $50,000 to support this project. It will be presented to Joshua Johnston at ADK's International Convention in July 2023. The money will be used to build dormitories, classrooms, a library/media center, a kitchen, and offices. There will be an area for gardening and fruit trees. The adjacent property will make a great play area. We have just under an acre of land on which to complete this project.
Harambee (hä-räm-bā')
Dear Sisters,
As
February comes to a close we can “see” spring. It may be several weeks
before the ground starts to thaw, but thaw it will, and before you know
it we'll be out digging in the dirt. I am so looking forward to doing
that! It may take me longer to accomplish all that I want to do, but
we'll get 'er done!
Plans
for our state convention are well underway. Thanks to the chapters that
have volunteered to take over the necessary duties/responsibilities.
The
chapter presidents should be receiving the state convention
registration form shortly. This should be filled out and sent in no
later than March 15. Hopefully, we will have a great turnout for this
convention. Due to COVID we have not had an in-person convention or
conference for the past two years. Let's make this one one to remember
and to renew old friendships and make new ones.
An
altruistic suggestion: Michigan is collecting mittens for an altruistic
project, and will collect them at the North Central Conference in
Frankenmuth in July. If you or your chapter would like to do this, we
could deliver the mittens in July either as a group or individually,
whatever and however you wish.

fund accessible outdoor classroom and its programs for special needs
children and their families from throughout SE WI including Kenosha,
Racine, Milwaukee, Waukesha, Oconomowoc, Oshkosh, Fond du Lac, Green
Bay, Madison, etc.
To
purchase and install new light fixtures in rooms used by Thread by
Thread program which offers free clothing, footwear, toys, baby
equipment, and household items to Racine families and individuals in
need.
To
purchase personal health care items and gift cards to pharmacies for
prescription co-pays for Kenosha County families and individuals. To purchase t-shirts for Keystone Club to start a heat press t-shirt design company to raise funds for their leadership program. |
